There's no SolidCraft app in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store yet. The official builds are Windows, macOS, Linux and the browser. But the browser version is the full SolidCraft app compiled for the web, and it installs on a tablet like a normal app, with its own icon, its own window and offline use.
Android tablet (Chrome)
- Open solidcraft.io/app in Chrome (or Edge or another Chromium browser).
- In SolidCraft's own menu, choose File › Install app…. Chrome shows its install prompt; accept it.
- SolidCraft now has a launcher icon and opens in its own window. After the first visit it works offline.
iPad (Safari)
- Open solidcraft.io/app in Safari.
- Tap Share › Add to Home Screen. Safari has no install prompt, so SolidCraft's File › Install app… item shows these same steps.
- Open it from the home screen icon.
What works with touch
We tested SolidCraft's web app in desktop Chrome, not on a tablet. Here is what the official docs say about touch:
- Selecting: tap to select. To reach something hidden under something else, long-press for half a second and a "Select Other…" list opens.
- Sketching: sketch tools place points where you click, so a tap places a point. The Canvas feature is handy here: photograph a paper sketch with the tablet and trace it.
- Keyboard shortcuts (L for line, E for extrude…) need a keyboard. A cheap Bluetooth keyboard makes a tablet much more usable.
- Stylus / Apple Pencil: the docs don't mention pen-specific features, such as pressure, palm rejection or pen gestures. In a browser, a stylus normally acts as a pointer, so expect it to work like a precise finger, not like a dedicated CAD pen.
If the 3D view is blank or glitchy
The web app uses WebGPU and falls back to WebGL2. On some tablets WebGPU is missing or buggy. Open solidcraft.io/app?webgl to force WebGL2. The browser remembers this until you open ?webgpu, and an installed app started from Chrome keeps it too.
Saving your work on a tablet
In the browser version, Save writes to the browser's private file storage on that device. It is not synced anywhere, and clearing the site's data deletes it. Use download/export to keep a real copy, or move to the desktop app for bigger projects.
Want a real Android or iPad app?
The developers take feature requests on GitHub. If you want a native tablet app with proper pen support, open or upvote an issue at github.com/tangency-labs/solidcraft/issues and say how you'd use it. Concrete use cases ("sketching parts on site with a pen") help them decide what to build next.
